TALLADEGA, Ala. – While investigating the shooting death of a recent Talladega High School graduate, the Talladega Police Department is asking for public help identifying suspects.
Responding to a report of a gunshot victim at approximately 2:24 a.m. May 31, 2026 in the 600 block of McApine Street, officers found the body of 18-year-old Jy’Kavien Wright lying on the sidewalk with a single gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is active and ongoing, and department officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible. CrimeStoppers 215STOP is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Wright had graduated from Talladega High School just two weeks earlier. He served as captain of the THS basketball team and planned to enroll at Gadsden State Community College, where he planned to try out for their basketball team.
