SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department issued a detailed press release about Tuesday night’s fires early Wednesday afternoon.
On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, Sylacauga Police Department and Sylacauga Fire Department responded to numerous reports of structure fires on the northwest side of our city. The reports started coming in around 8:30 pm. The first reported structure fire was located at 507 Cross Creek Lane. This was a two story, single family structure. The residence at the time was vacant. The second structure reported was located at 1025 W. Pine Street. This was a single level, single family structure that was also vacant at the time of the fire. Next, units from SFD and SPD responded to 615 W. 8th Street. This home was also vacant at the time of the fire and was a single level, single family structure. The aforementioned homes were damaged but not totally destroyed.
As SFD and other responding fire departments worked to get these fires under control, reports started coming in about yet another fire at 19 ½ W. 10th Street. This was an occupied mobile home. The resident was able to escape the fire slightly injured. At this same location, a garage can belonging to the adjoining neighbor was destroyed. The final location, 209 W. 8th Street was an abandoned house that had been empty for years.
SPD Patrol Division was able to locate three juvenile males in the area of the fires around 12:30 am. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Patrol division took the three into custody and transported them to the police station for interviews. All three juveniles were interviewed and one seventeen year old white male was arrested on four (4) counts of Arson 2nd Degree and one (1) count of Arson 1st Degree. The other two juveniles were charged with the same charges later this same date. The final two charged were 16 years of age and 14 years of age, both white males. All of the defendants charged were from the Sylacauga area. All three are currently being held in Anniston, Alabama, at the Department of Youth Services Detention Facility and will be held until brought before the Talladega County District Court Judge at a later date.

Thank you to Sycamore VFD, Oak Grove VFD, Lay Lake VFD, County Line VFD, Talladega Fire Department and Childersburg Fire Department for helping the residents of our city and our public safety personnel bring this incident under control.
