Sylacauga man arrested and charged with Capital Murder for Aug. 1 homicide

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A Sylacauga man has been arrested for the murder of Curtis Chadwick Jackson on Aug. 1. The Sylacauga Police Department announced the arrest on Thursday.

SPD arrested 26-year-old Barry Terrell Knapper after obtaining a warrant. He is currently being held in the Talladega County Jail without bond and being charged with Capital Murder.

Police previously told SylacaugaNews.com Jackson was gunned down just after midnight on Tuesday, Aug. 1 in the Sylacauga Housing Authority area of Drew Court.

Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson said units first responded to calls of gun shots and were then notified of a shooting victim. Paramedics were notified and transported the victim to Coosa Valley Medical Center where he later passed away.

Capital Murder is a Class A Felony which is punishable by a sentence of death or life in prison without parole. SPD says the case is still open and active with additional suspects being investigated.
