CHILDERSBURG, Ala – Childersburg Elks Lodge 2295 opened its grounds to the public for a community celebration of “250USA,” highlighting the organization’s support for local residents while also promoting causes that extend beyond the community.
“We try to be as supportive as we possibly can of things in our area – First Responders, nursing homes, hosting blood drives, but especially our veterans,” said Lodge Exalted Ruler Mark McDickenson.
As part of the Elks’ commitment to military veterans through its Grand National Convention initiatives, the local lodge has adopted the veterans clinic in Childersburg.
“We make sure we provide meals on a regular basis, create events at least monthly, and always try to acknowledge their birthdays in special ways to make sure our veterans know they are loved and appreciated,” said Amber McDickenson.
McDickenson said another important cause for the organization is Camp ASCCA in Tallapoosa County, which provides year-round camping experiences for children and adults with disabilities.
“Together, Elks lodges across Alabama contribute $50,000 every summer, plus special project donations from individual lodges,” she said. “We’ll be celebrating Camp ASCCA Day with them on July 18.”
Supporting community causes also includes hosting a variety of events and activities. The lodge’s “250USA” celebration featured cornhole, horseshoe and dart tournaments, karaoke, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, cold drinks, and a fireworks display after dark.
The event provided a festive opportunity for residents to celebrate 250 years of American freedom while supporting the Childersburg community and the charitable causes championed by the Elks.
