CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – With Labor Day approaching, the Childersburg Rescue Squad is once again offering its popular smoked Boston Butt Fundraiser, giving residents an easy way to celebrate the holiday while supporting the volunteer organization’s community efforts.

The deadline to place orders is Friday, Aug. 28, and organizers say the fundraiser typically sells out.

“Even with the cost of everything going up, we are still able to keep the price at $45 per butt,” said Gene Piatkowski. “You can pick up your orders after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Rescue Squad building located behind the former Childersburg Police Station.”

As an all-volunteer organization, the Childersburg Rescue Squad relies on donations and fundraisers to cover operating expenses. Those costs include insurance and maintenance for three rescue trucks, three specially equipped rescue boats, a 15-passenger bus, three trailers, and a side-by-side ATV, as well as fuel for all vehicles.

“This summer, we secured and delivered health supplies to every school in the southern part of the county to help prevent illness,” Piatkowski said. “Each school received supplies of Lysol spray, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, and sanitizer refills. Our hope is that everyone has a healthy and successful school year.”

Piatkowski also highlighted the squad’s recent recovery efforts.

“So far this summer, we successfully recovered two drowning victims, helping bring closure to their families,” he said. “We need your support to continue serving our community.”

Organizers note that a smoked Boston butt can also make a thoughtful gift for family or friends.

To place an order, send your name, phone number, and the number of Boston Butts you would like to purchase to Piatkowski or Jim Dennis through Facebook Messenger. Payment by cash or check will be accepted at pickup on Sept. 5.
