SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Taking a short drive or two can create a lot of new family holiday traditions. We thought it might help to have a short list of Christmas Parades and other holiday events across the region from which to choose.

There are quite a few Christmas Parades early in the month, with every week featuring more. That gets started today – Monday, Dec. 1:

Monday, Dec. 1 – Alexander City
Tuesday, Dec. 2 – Lineville
Thursday Dec. 4 – Sylacauga
Saturday, Dec. 6 – Rockford (with Winterfest activities)
Saturday, Dec. 6 – Ashland (with Small Town Christmas activities)
Saturday, Dec. 6 – Wilsonville
Monday, Dec. 8 – Talladega
Thursday, Dec. 11 – Childersburg
Friday, Dec. 12 – Pell City
Friday, Dec. 12 – Leeds
Saturday, Dec. 13 – Moody
Saturday, Dec. 13 – Springville
Saturday, Dec. 20 – Chelsea

There are lots of other holiday season activities planned, as well. Here are a few highlights:

The Alexander City campus of Central Alabama Community College features six nights of live nativity scenes as several local churches join together the next two weekends – Dec. 5-7, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and Dec. 12-14, also from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please enter campus from Airport Rd. across from Stoneridge Baptist Church.

Childersburg has a trio of long-time traditions.

Tuesday, Dec. 2 will be the Tree Lighting ceremony that features all sorts of family activities throughout downtown.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, First Baptist Church of Childersburg hosts the annual “Reason for the Season” concert of choirs, which also serves as a means of collecting food for those in need.

Then on Tuesday, Dec. 9, it’s the annual Greater Coosa Valley Chamber December Coffee at the historic Butler-Harris-Rainwater House. Volunteers always have the place decorated beautifully for the season with the best homemade holiday breakfast treats of the season.
