OAK GROVE & CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Several annual events in the area have been canceled because of the potential for severe weather associated with Tropical Storm Isaias, as Gov. Kay Ivey has declared a State of Emergency for 40 of Alabama’s 67 counties.
The annual Oak Grove Fall Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, has been canceled. No decision has been announced regarding a makeup date.
Organizers had described this year’s event as the biggest and best ever, and many are hopeful they will find a way to preserve as much of the planned celebration as possible.
The first leg of Ride to the Rescue in Childersburg, scheduled for this weekend, also has been postponed. Organizers expect to announce a rescheduled date late Monday, Oct. 12. The coastal leg in Linden is scheduled to proceed as planned on Oct. 24.
Gov. Ivey has declared a State of Emergency for 40 of Alabama’s 67 counties through at least midnight of Wednesday, Oct. 14. Forecasters have warned that Isaias could potentially affect Alabama as a hurricane as early as Friday.
Gov. Ivey urged residents to take the threat seriously despite hopes for minimal impacts and encouraged them to monitor reliable weather updates as the weekend approaches.
