SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council held a meeting Thursday night, June 22, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior to the meeting at 4:30 p.m.
At the meeting, the Council recognized Mayor Jim Heigl’s appointments of Tara Douglas to the Sylacauga Planning Commission and Taylor Pharr as the acting Municipal Judge.
They approved the recommendation from Human Resource Specialist Jayne McGee for an extension to FMLA leave for Street Department employee R. Stacey Landry until Oct. 31 of this year.
The city council also appointed Jason Clary to the Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals for the remaining three-year supernumerary term vacated by John Hall which expires Jan. 2024.
Change Order #2 was approved by the council for drainage improvements in Sylacauga along E. Clay St. and S Church Ave., S Norton Ave. and W Walnut St., and E 1st St. and Calhoun Ave. Change Order 2 will cost $21,200 and will be funded by American Rescue Funds.
The council approved Accounts Payable invoices received for June 2023 in the amount of $236,175.94.
Multiple members of the Sylacauga community came forward during the time provided near the close of the meeting to voice their concerns over the lack of a city pool.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 6, at 6:00 p.m.
