CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council, at the request of the State ABC Board, approved Ordinance 1159, which establishes a one-year moratorium on hemp sales within the city limits.
In other New Business, the council approved Resolution 2026-29, which establishes a “discovery” fee schedule to cover labor and printing costs associated with requested documents, including police and accident reports. The action follows a measure approved during the Sept. 1 meeting regarding records requests at City Hall.
Two members of the Childersburg Housing Authority were reappointed to the panel. Gene Piatkowski will serve a term expiring Feb. 3, 2030, while Frank Black will serve until Feb. 3, 2031.
The council approved a $300 advertisement with the Childersburg Tip-Off Club, to be paid from Fund 23-LRA.
Fiscal Year 2027 Fraternal Order of Police dues also were approved for payment on behalf of 17 Childersburg Police Department officers. The total cost is $510, to be paid from Fund 10.
Payments totaling $109,530.08 in invoices were approved.
The council’s next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6:00 p.m., following a 5:30 p.m. work session.
During the pre-meeting work session, it was announced that Childersburg had been approved for an $800,000 TAP Grant for sidewalk and lamppost improvements along the remainder of First St. and 8th Ave.
A representative of the Talladega County Drug Task Force appeared before the council to make the organization’s annual budget request, seeking additional funding to help cover increased operational costs.
Mayor Ken Wesson said he received a letter from E-911 stating that the agency will readdress the entirety of Coosa Pines Dr., along with several intersecting roads. The changes will affect approximately 120 addresses.
“They inform us,” Wesson said, “but we have no say or authority over the changes.”
