OAK GROVE, Ala. – During its regular meeting this week, the Oak Grove Town Council voted to bring bulk waste, yard debris, and leaf collection services in-house. The council also canceled a previously scheduled resolution vote concerning roll-off container rental and hauling services and approved a related ordinance.
Ordinance 137 establishes regulations for the Oak Grove Public Works Department’s curbside collection services. Bulk waste pickups will be scheduled for the first and third Mondays of each month.
One important provision states that waste generated by contracted tree services or other contractors working on a resident’s property will not be eligible for town pickup. Such waste must be handled as part of the contract with the company providing the services.
The council also addressed three items involving the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department. The council appropriated $1,500 for a storage system for the department’s utility vehicle and approved $1,402 for various uniform replacements and new volunteer uniform pieces.
Josh Leonard was approved as a new member of the Volunteer Fire Department.
The council also was informed that the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department is now working with the Sylacauga Fire Department to provide mutual aid on all calls as well as participate in cooperative training sessions.
With approval of job descriptions for the transportation coordinator and part-time driver/dispatcher positions, the council has completed its review and update of all town positions.
To comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the council approved a $6,456 quote from Sylacauga Glass to replace the front door at Town Hall.
A request from the Public Works Department to purchase a chipper was tabled pending additional information.
Resolution 662 was approved to issue a public nuisance and weed abatement notice to a property owner on Cole Ln.
The council approved a $693.11 computer memory upgrade for the assistant clerk’s computer. Action on the clerk’s computer was tabled while the town gathers additional information about purchasing a replacement computer.
David Harris reported that plans for the Saturday, Oct. 10 Fall Festival are complete. Among several additions to the event lineup is a new dunking booth, which will serve as a fundraiser for B.B. Comer Elementary School teachers to help cover the cost of classroom supplies.
A townwide cleanup day was also announced for Oak Grove. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21.
