SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will meet Tuesday night, Oct. 6, following a work session that is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Faye Hosey Chambers.
The regular council meeting will begin immediately after the work session.
During its consideration of Old Business, the council is expected to consider adoption of any remaining resolutions related to the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget, including contracts and Memorandums of Understanding involving Employee Assistance Services, John Ham, the Sylacauga Board of Education, and the Sylacauga Police Department.
The council also will consider a resolution to enter into a contract with Retail Strategies and consider the appointment of a new City Clerk-Treasurer.
Appointments to several city boards also are on the agenda. The council will consider appointments to the Airport Authority Board, the Historical Commission, the Industrial Development Board, the Library Board, and Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals. The candidates were previously interviewed by the council on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
Several projects at the Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Arts Center also are up for consideration. The council will consider accepting and approving an elevator upgrade project, an HVAC replacement project, and repairs and renovations to interior walls. All three projects would be funded through 2024-A bond proceeds.
In New Business, the council will consider setting for bid a request for proposals for “Nuisance Abatement Services for Demolition,” Bid No. 2026-3-002. Pending approval of the bid documents, proposals would be accepted in the City Clerk’s office beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, through the start of the bid opening at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9.
The council also will consider selecting a vendor and approving a related quote for an audio and visual upgrade project for the Faye Hosey Chambers.
Other items include approval of the 2027 holiday and council meeting schedule, as well as fiscal year 2026 and fiscal year 2027 accounts payable invoices.
An executive session also is scheduled for Tuesday night’s meeting.
