TALLADEGA, Ala. – After the Talladega City Council passed a new teen curfew ordinance, community reaction has been mixed, with some residents praising the measure, others questioning its effectiveness, and still others asking whether it goes far enough.

Under the new ordinance, individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from being in public places between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Violations may result in penalties of up to a $500 fine or jail time.

City officials say the goal is to protect young people and their families while helping reduce criminal activity.

On social media, some residents have questioned the long term objectives of the ordinance and are seeking more details about enforcement and future plans. Others have praised the measure as a positive step toward keeping teens out of trouble. Some residents, however, said a curfew alone may not be enough, suggesting the city invest in more youth and family activities.
