ALPINE, Ala. – Gov. Kay Ivey is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a fatal shooting in Alpine in February.
Talladega County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at about 1:40 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23 to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 2000 block of Grist Mill Rd. Upon arrival, deputies found 51-year-old LaDale U. Garrett inside his truck suffering from an apparent gunshot wound near the intersection of Grist Mill Rd. and Reynolds Mill Rd.
Garrett was transported to Citizens Baptist Medical Center before being transferred to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 5:40 a.m.
Family members said Garrett was on his way to work at the time of the incident.
The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting.
