EASTABOGA, Ala. – Legacy Cabinets has permanently shut down its Eastaboga manufacturing operation, leaving hundreds of employees without jobs and bringing the company’s more than three decades of business in the community to an end.
Workers were informed on Saturday, June 6 that the company had ceased all operations at its facility on Legacy Blvd. The announcement stated that all positions were eliminated effective immediately, making June 6 the final day of employment for affected workers.
Company leaders said the decision was driven by financial and business-related challenges. In its notice to employees, Legacy Cabinets acknowledged it did not provide the 60-day advance warning generally required under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
Instead, the company said it qualified for the law’s “faltering company” exception, which allows reduced notice under certain circumstances. According to the notice, management had spent recent months pursuing financing and investment opportunities that it believed could keep the business operating or delay a shutdown.
The company also stated that issuing an earlier warning could have undermined those efforts by creating concerns among potential lenders, investors, and business partners about the company’s future viability.
The sudden closure has generated concerns among former employees, many of whom learned of the shutdown on the same day their jobs ended. Questions remain regarding severance benefits, unemployment assistance, and other resources available to displaced workers.
