SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Miss Sylacauga Organization, in collaboration with long-time sponsor Sylacauga Parks and Recreation, is broadening the geographic eligibility requirements for its contestants.
Effective immediately, individuals residing, attending school, or working in Talladega, Shelby, Clay, St. Clair, Calhoun, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Autauga, and Elmore counties can now compete in the Miss Sylacauga competition.
“We are excited to offer the opportunity for more young ladies to participate in our scholarship competition,” said Kim Todd, Executive Director of Miss Sylacauga.
Despite this expansion, the organization wants to reassure the community that service efforts remain Sylacauga-focused.
“It is important that we continue the legacy that Forever Miss Sylacaugas have set before us,” stated Makenzie Price, RadioAlabama Account Executive and Miss Sylacauga Community Service Chair. “Our goal is for our titleholders to be present as much as possible in all areas of community life.”
Last year, over $38,000 in scholarships were awarded, thanks to the community’s support.
The expanded eligibility also applies to the Rising Stars program, allowing participants ages 6-12 to be mentored by Miss Sylacauga contestants on the day of the competition.
Additionally, the Miss America Organization has updated age requirements.
For the Miss division, contestants must be between 17-27, and for the Teen division, between 13-17. The 2025 state competitions are scheduled for March and June 2025.
Established in 1937, Miss Sylacauga is the state’s oldest preliminary competition. This year’s event will be held on Oct. 5, 2024, at Sylacauga High School. Registration opens in mid-August.
