Sylacauga small businesses up for annual state-wide awards

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Small business is booming in Sylacauga, and the proof of that is apparent in more than just word of mouth.

Every year the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama (CCAA) recognizes businesses all over the state with the Alabama Small Business Award. Sylacauga is represented heavily this year with three finalists.

The award is split into four different categories: Emerging Small Business of the Year; 1-10 Employee Small Business of the Year; 11-50 Employee Small Business of the Year; and 51-100 Employee Small Business of the Year. The three local finalists for this year’s edition are McClendon Bridals (Emerging), Donahoo Physical Therapy (1-10), and Harvey’s on Noble (11-50). The nominees are judged in four categories: community involvement, chamber participation, business success, and overall deservedness.

“I was beyond excited when I received the letters announcing the finalists and seeing our businesses included literally brought tears to my eyes,” said Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce Director Laura Strickland. “I know that sounds cliché, but the Sylacauga Chamber truly values all of partners.  Having been a small business owner myself, I know the endless hours of work, worry, concern, and celebration that takes place in their daily routines.  To have them recognized for their success is truly rewarding.”

Sylacauga has a chance to retain the crown in the 1-10 Employee division. Last year the winner was Marble City Pharmacy.

“To have one of our local family owned businesses recognized for their organization’s business success along with recognition for their support of the Sylacauga community outside of their daily business activities, speaks volumes for the character of the Johnson family and their team,” Strickland said.

The award winners will be announced on Friday, Dec. 3 at the 2021 CCAA annual meeting.
