[WATCH] Sylacauga City Council appoints Taylor Pharr as new Part-Time Municipal Judge at Tuesday’s meeting

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met Tuesday night, July 18, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior at 5:00 p.m.

At the meeting, the city council nominated and unanimously appointed Taylor Pharr as the new Part-Time Municipal Judge for a two-year term beginning July 18, 2023 through July 17, 2025. The council also established his salary for the two years of service.

The council designated undisclosed signatories for checks on COS bank accounts that may also conduct other financial transactions on behalf of the city.

Two FY23 budget amendments were approved to move funding from the General Fund to the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE). Those changes include money amounts of $40,000 for SAFE’s Transportation Program and $25,000 for its Aging Program.

Sylacauga’s city council approved Resolution No. 34-2023 for the “Street Sounds” initial cost of placement and set-up phase in the amount of $24,440, with the city of Sylacauga providing half of the funding in the amount of $12,220 and the Commercial Development Authority funding the other $12,220.

The council approved Timothy W. Allen’s applications for Retail Table Wine (Off Premises Only) at his two Allen’s Quick Stop and Allen’s Food Mart, Inc. locations at 1229 Old Birmingham Hwy and 42020 US Hwy 280, Unit A after police reports were completed.

Additionally, the council appointed Craig Stickley to the Industrial Development Board for the remaining six-year term vacated by Thomas K. Bass that is set to expire in April 2029.

They approved the balance of June Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $881,510.07.

To begin the meeting, Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Strickland shared with the council and those in attendance that over 5,000 people were on-site for the fireworks celebration held at Central Park on Friday, June 30.

After the meeting concluded, Taylor Pharr was officially sworn in as Sylacauga’s new Part-Time Municipal Judge.

The next meeting of the Sylacauga City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 6:00 p.m.
