SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The new season of the Sylacauga Farmers Market has shown remarkable growth in both the number of vendors and the variety of products available to shoppers each Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
While fresh produce remains a major attraction, the market also features a growing number of vendors in the home cottage sector. Shoppers can find flavored lemonades, homemade treats, baked goods, popular snack items, farm-fresh eggs, jams, jellies, and sauces. Other offerings include plants, handcrafted woodworking projects, and a wide variety of custom gift items.
Several longtime growers have returned for this year’s market. Among them is Pete Baker and the crew from 4-Mile Farms. They currently offer both ripe and green tomatoes, with even more varieties expected as the summer season progresses. The farm also brings green and ripe plums, red potatoes, and what many locals know as ash potatoes. Bell peppers, cucumbers, and several varieties of squash are also available.
Baker’s sweet corn has been a popular item, though shoppers are encouraged to arrive early until the full crop comes in over the next few weeks. Okra and a variety of melons are also expected to arrive in time for Fourth of July celebrations.

Another longtime favorite has been drawing crowds with fresh-picked Chilton County peaches for more than a decade. In addition to peaches, the vendor offers tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and plums. Strawberry season is winding down, but customers can look forward to melons, okra, peas, and sweet corn in the coming weeks.
The vendor’s green beans have already proven to be a customer favorite, with larger quantities expected as the harvest continues.
