SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will hold a special called meeting tonight, June 27, at 6:00 p.m. to request a declaration of a state of emergency for the town.
The decision was made after multiple members of the Sylacauga community shared their thoughts and concerns about the recent flash flooding and subsequent water damage that a number of homes and businesses have suffered through twice in the last few months.
In the morning hours of both March 23 and June 8, Sylacauga experienced large amounts of rainfall which parts of the city’s drainage system could not handle.
City Council president Lee Perryman called for the Monday night meeting to seek aid from other local, state, and federal officials on resolving the drainage issue as soon as possible.
At the meeting, the council will also look to approve a resolution to replace the generator at city hall as well as listen to other concerns the public has and act accordingly.
