SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council held a meeting on Tuesday night, April 16, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior at 4:00 p.m.
At the meeting, the city council authorized Mayor Jim Heigl to enter into a Waste Hauling contract with Green for Life effective April 17, 2024. (40-yard dumpster, $260 per haul, $30 disposal fee per ton, Consumer Price Index: January each year)
The council amended Resolution No. 52-2023 for the FY24 Chamber of Commerce contract to add an additional $17,000. (Total FY24 Budget approved for the Chamber of Commerce is $52,000, effective April 16, 2024.)
They also amended Resolution No. 63-2023 for the FY24 Talladega County Health Department Memorandum of Agreement to add an additional $6,000. (Total FY24 Budget approved for the Talladega County Health Department is $18,000, effective April 16, 2024.)
Two more approvals for additional funding were granted, including:
$25,000 to Lake Howard for the FY24 Budget. (Total FY24 Budget approved for Lake Howard is $50,000, effective April 16, 2024.)
$500 to the Beautification Council for the FY24 Budget. (Total FY24 Budget approved for the Beautification Council is $2,500, effective April 16, 2024.)
The council approved the capital purchase for duct work by Sleeping Giant at the Animal Shelter.
Approval was given for additional funds to advertise and hire a Business License Clerk until Aug. 9, 2024.
The retirement of K-9 Officer Drago from the Sylacauga Police Department, effective April 16, 2024, was approved.
The city council approved the City of Sylacauga to buy-out the contract of certified Police Officer Malcolm Kelley in the amount of $16,728.50.
The council approved the Fiscal Year 2024 Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $731,760.49 as well as the March 2024 payroll in the amount of $746,397.67.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:00 p.m.
