SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Aspiring actors and mystery lovers will have the opportunity to step into one of Agatha Christie’s most famous whodunits as auditions are scheduled for Southern Dance and Performing Arts Company’s upcoming production of “Murder on the Orient Express.”
Auditions will be held at the Southern Dance and Performing Arts Studio on N Broadway Ave. in downtown Sylacauga. Participants can sign up for an audition slot through SDPAC’s website at sdpac.net. Audition dates are Thursday, Aug. 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The production is open to performers ages 12 and older. A cast fee of $25 will be required for those selected for the show.
Adapted for the stage by Ken Ludwig, “Murder on the Orient Express” is based on Agatha Christie’s classic mystery novel. Set in the winter of 1934, the story follows famed detective Hercule Poirot after the luxurious Orient Express becomes stranded in a snowdrift. When an American businessman is discovered stabbed in a locked train compartment, Poirot must question a train full of intriguing suspects to uncover the killer before another crime occurs.
Public performances are scheduled for Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 16-17. Tentative school performances are planned for Oct. 13 and Oct. 15.
