SYLACAUGA, Ala. – If you have been in the Sylacauga community for a while, or even a day, there is a chance you have been stopped by the folding arms at the railroad tracks on Broadway.
But have you ever asked yourself why the exact same set of tracks on N. Norton Ave. do not have the levers warning you a train is coming? Well if you have, you will not have to ask that question anymore.
Starting Monday, April 24, crossing arms will be placed on this set of tracks between Blue Bell Park and Curran St. on N. Norton. Ave.
This will not be the only work done in the area. To kill two birds with one stone, the Sylacauga Utilities Board will raise the utility lines in the area to taller utility poles.
This utility work will cause road closures in the area due to the equipment used to transfer the utility lines. The following roads and intersections will be barricaded and closed from 7 a.m. Monday, April 24, until Friday, April 28, at 5 p.m.:
- N. Norton Ave. and Curran St.
- Curran St. and N. Broadway Ave.
- N. Norton Ave. and Curran St.
The Sylacauga Police Department is asking for all traffic to use Broadway Ave. for north and south bound traffic.
