SYLACAUGA, Ala. — Coosa Valley Medical Center will receive more than $2.8 million in funding through the Alabama Rural Health Transformation Program, part of a statewide initiative focused on improving healthcare access in rural communities.
Gov. Kay Ivey announced on Monday, Aug. 24 that 138 grants totaling more than $144 million have been awarded to healthcare providers and institutions across Alabama. The grants are designed to support innovative and sustainable projects that help enhance healthcare delivery in rural areas.
Coosa Valley Medical Center was awarded $2,830,350.56 through six grants that will fund a range of initiatives intended to bolster services for patients throughout Talladega County and the surrounding region.
The funding will support improvements to the hospital’s electronic health record systems, information technology infrastructure, and cybersecurity capabilities. Additional investments will be made to expand the hospital’s Senior Behavioral Unit through infrastructure upgrades and the addition of psychiatry staff.
Grant funds also will be used to implement technology that improves coordination of non-emergency patient transportation, helping patients access care more efficiently. Other projects include partnerships with regional healthcare and academic organizations to strengthen rural care delivery, expand graduate medical education opportunities and enhance access to specialized resources and support.
Glenn Sisk, President and CEO of Coosa Valley Medical Center, said access to capital improvement funding “continues to be one of the greatest challenges facing rural hospitals.”
“The distribution of these funds across Alabama, and most especially those directed to Coosa Valley Medical Center, will ensure the organization reinvests in clinical advancements while improving our patients’ experience overall,” Sisk said.
The awards come after a highly competitive application process. According to state officials, 389 applications requesting nearly $596 million in funding were submitted, while approximately $140 million was available during this round.
Gov. Ivey said the program reflects Alabama’s commitment to ensuring residents have access to quality healthcare regardless of where they live.
Coosa Valley Medical Center officials also expressed appreciation to Gov. Ivey and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for supporting sustainable healthcare investments that will benefit rural communities across the state.
