CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Central Alabama Community College hosted the July Chamber Coffee for the Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce, and they took some time to highlight parts of their growing successes.

“We have seen a 126 percent increase in our enrollment,” said President Jeff Lynn. “We are seeing more and more students completing programs that send them directly to work with employers in need of their learned skills as well as an increase in those who move on to complete a four-year degree. It’s exciting to see.”

Lynn introduced the current Greater Coosa Valley Chamber Board Chair Mel Borden as a key to the success of the school. Borden then introduced students who came to the college as adults needing to complete their high school education. “We are seeing more and more who enter through adult education, who work their way through graduation and on to permanent employment,” Borden said.

Lynn also discussed the term “industry ready.”

“The school has always prided itself on helping create a stronger workforce, but the new key is that we have spent a lot of time listening to those in our business and industry communities that surround our campuses. We discuss short term needs, and we use their input to develop better plans to meet their long term employee needs.”

Councilman Bill Moody represented the Childersburg city government, “We are seeing new homes in the Griffin Creek subdivision near the high school, and College Park is still booming, bringing new residents to our city. We’re busy putting finishing touches on the new Police and Judicial Building. It won’t be long before we are neighbors to CACC. I urge you all to get out and vote next month during our municipal elections.”

Chamber President John Mark Freeman noted a change of venue for upcoming movie nights. “We are moving the event indoors at the Limbaugh Community Center. We’ll have ‘The Lion King’ this Friday evening, and ‘Ghostbusters’ on Friday, July 25.”

Freeman added that Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union in Childersburg will host the August Chamber Coffee on Tuesday, August 12 at 8:30 a.m. The new Childersburg branch of First Bank of Alabama will open on July 23 with more details coming soon.

Other events of note shared with those in attendance were:

TigerFest on the evening of Friday, August 1, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the new John Cox Stadium.

2025 Kiwanis Golf Tournament on Monday, September 8 at the Coosa Pines Golf Course.
