SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools celebrated the achievements of its Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs during a board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Among the honorees was April Lane, HOSA (Future Health Professionals) advisor at Nichols-Lawson Middle School, who was named Alabama Middle School HOSA Advisor of the Year at the International Leadership Conference in Houston.
Under her leadership, students Cullen Wright and Brody Melton competed in Dynamic Decisions, while Anderson Adair and Leland Johns participated in Public Health at the international event.
“Ms. Lane’s passion for healthcare is evident daily in her classroom instruction,” said Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller. “We are fortunate to have her instilling this knowledge in our middle school students.”
The district also recognized Sylacauga High School’s Photography and Business programs. Led by Jimmy Reynolds, the Photography program garnered statewide and national recognition, with Rebecca Wykoff earning the Alabama State Champion title and advancing to the SkillsUSA National Conference in Atlanta.
In the Business program, 14 students, under the guidance of Mrs. Sutton and Mrs. Hosey, competed at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Orlando.
The meeting, attended by administrators, faculty, and community members, concluded with the presentation of certificates to Lane, Reynolds, Sutton, and their students.
