Alabama Power warns customers to avoid popular scams

SHARE NOW

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Your phone rings, and the Caller ID says it’s Alabama Power. When you answer, someone posing as a company employee tells you that your power will be cut off if you do not pay your overdue bill over the phone. This scenario is not how Alabama Power handles such a situation.

Alabama Power representative Anthony Cook says, “Alabama Power will never call or text customers for immediate payments or ask for personal information or credit card numbers.”

Cook says that you should politely hang up and call the official customer service number, not the number from your Caller ID. That general customer service phone number is 1 (800) 245-2244.

A real Alabama Power customer service team member can answer your questions and even help you take care of making a payment.
