SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Utilities Board has announced it will suspend its disconnection practices due to non-payment until April 17.

SUB announced the decision Thursday amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Customers, however, will be responsible for the full bill amount accrued until payment is made.

This decision will be re-addressed after the April 17 policy ends.

SUB is still accepting payments, but not though the lobby. The lobby area is closed to the public, but its drive-thru lanes will remain open.

Alternate payment methods include; drive-thru, bank draft, online payment through the SUB website, over the phone and by mail to PO Box 207, Sylacauga, AL 35150.

SUB ensured that the COVID-19 virus has no impact on the quality of its drinking water or its safety.

SUB also said scammers have been taking advantage of the COVID-19 outbreak. SUB does not demand payment via credit/debit or prepaid card over the phone. Scammers may also play upon COVID-19 fears by offering “alternative” payment methods. Even if SUB’s phone number appears in the Caller ID display, any demand of this type is a scam. Customers should hang up and call SUB at 256-245-8501 to certify account status and report the scam attempt.
