SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga senior quarterback CJ Franklin officially signed Thursday, May 7, to continue his football career at Clark Atlanta University, closing the book on a standout run with the Aggies.

Franklin spent the last two seasons as Sylacauga’s starting quarterback, though his impact on the program stretches back further. As a sophomore, he was thrust into action following an injury and quickly stepped into the offense, beginning a steady rise that turned him into one of the more productive playmakers in the area over the next three years.

Sylacauga head coach Chris Smelley has seen that growth firsthand and has long valued what Franklin brings to the field beyond just statistics.

“CJ is a great athlete. He’s got a strong arm, and he’s tough to bring down when he gets out in space,” Smelley said. “He’s also a great person, and he will do well at the next level.”

Franklin leaves Sylacauga with his name firmly etched throughout the record book. He set the program mark for total offense in a single game with 481 yards, along with school records for passing yards in a game with 344 and completions in a game with 21.

Production on the field only tells part of his story. Franklin became a centerpiece of the Aggies‘ offense thanks to his ability to extend plays with his legs and deliver accurate throws downfield when opportunities developed. That combination made him a constant problem for opposing defenses and a reliable anchor for Sylacauga’s offense over his time as a starter.

His next stop comes at Clark Atlanta, where his football career will continue at the collegiate level.
