TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects in the shooting death of a recent Talladega High School graduate.
Officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at approximately 2:24 a.m. on Sunday, May 31 in the 600 block of McAlpine St. Upon arrival, officers found 18-year-old Jy’Kavien Wright lying on a sidewalk with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are seeking information from the public that could help identify those responsible for Wright’s death.

Wright graduated from Talladega High School approximately two weeks before his death. He served as captain of the school’s basketball team and planned to enroll at Gadsden State Community College, where he intended to try out for the basketball team.
