TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – Talladega police last week arrested a convicted sex offender for violating Alabama’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, prompting a series of additional SORNA-related arrests across the county.
Leander “Andy” Calhoun, 61, of Alpine was arrested by Talladega police. Authorities allege Calhoun had been working in Talladega for some time without registering his employment with police, as required by SORNA. His workplace is also too close to the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind campuses for him to be permitted to work there under state law.
Calhoun pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted rape in 1998.
The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office next charged 28-year old Tyler Lamar Reaves with two SORNA violations and two probation violations. The sheriff’s office also arrested Keith Owen McDonald, 62, who was the subject of a motion to revoke his bond in connection with a SORNA violation.
This week, 46-year old Marquette Ladante Felder faced two SORNA violations in Childersburg and a mandatory release violation in Talladega County filed by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.
David Tyrome Thomas, 61, was arrested by the sheriff’s office on three SORNA violations.
In a separate case, 26-year old Francisco Ixotoyac was charged with second-degree sex offense in Lincoln. If convicted, he would be required to register as a sex offender.
