SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A private drive at the corner of Fort Williams St. and N Elm St., near Sonic, will be temporarily closed to public access beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9, because of severe potholes and ongoing complaints about vehicle damage, according to the Sylacauga Police Department.
The closure follows discussions during the first meeting of the city’s new Nuisance Abatement Board. Police contacted the property owner about the condition of the drive.
The owner has verbally agreed to complete the necessary repairs. The drive will remain closed until the work is finished, police said.
An alternate access point will remain available during the closure.
Police said the temporary closure is intended to help prevent additional vehicle damage while repairs are pending. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Officials thanked residents and motorists for their patience and understanding while the long-standing issue is addressed.
