SYLACAUGA, Ala. – According to a Facebook post from the Sylacauga Fire Department earlier today, a wreck has closed all lanes on Hwy. 280.

A motor vehicle accident between Merkel Mountain and Old Sylacauga Hwy. involved a truck transporting hazardous materials that overturned. The truck had a tire blowout, went across the median into oncoming traffic and hit an SUV.

SylacaugaNews.com spoke with Sylacauga Fire Chief Adam Gardner who confirmed the incident resulted in two fatalities of the SUV passengers.  Evacuations were ordered for the immediate vicinity of the incident, but no further evacuations will be necessary.

The identified victim in the wreck was 52-year-old Tammy Bullard and her granddaughter. Bullard was a regular caller on the Paul Finebaum Show.
