CHELSEA, Ala. – One person is dead after a vehicle and train collided in Chelsea on Tuesday night, Feb. 24.
A crash involving a train occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, and it claimed the life of a Birmingham woman. The Shelby County coroner has identified the deceased as 31-year-old Michelle Manning.
Manning was fatally injured when the 2016 Volkswagen Passat she was driving was struck at a railroad crossing by the CSX transportation train. Manning was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred on Shelby County 433, near Johnson Rd., approximately one mile east of Chelsea’s city limits in Shelby County. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
