SYLACAUGA, Ala. – On Monday just after lunch, the Sylacauga Police Department arrested 22-year-old Tyrone Derwin Hardy Jr. of Alpine and charged him with Attempting to Elude, Driving Under the Influence and Escape in the Third Degree.
According to Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson, SPD received a call of a reckless driver heading south on Alabama Hwy. 21 toward Sylacauga. The caller said the driver of a silver-grey Ford Mustang was driving dangerously and cutting drivers off on the state highway. Moments later. Johnson explained, police saw the Ford Mustang driven by Hardy moving at a high-rate of speed near Dobson’s Grocery just inside the city limits.
Officers pursued the Hardy on a high-speed chase through the city before he turned right onto W. 3rd St. Johnson explained Hardy crashed into a utilities pole in front of the Sylacauga Utilities Board as he tried to turn left onto N. Elm St. and drive towards W. Fort Williams St.
According to Johnson the chase ended right there and Hardy was taken into custody without issue.
Hardy is currently being held in the Talladega County Jail.
