CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council approved the purchase of 18 Glock 45 duty firearms and accessories from GT Distributors Inc.
The net cost of the purchase is $14,082 and includes a trade-in of the department’s current firearms. Those firearms will be made available to officers through a buyback program offered by the company. The new duty weapons will be paid for through Fund 10, the TIP Fund, using donations made to the department.
The council also approved two additional requests from the Police Department.
Police Chief Kevin Koss received approval to attend the 2026 Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police Summer Conference, scheduled for Aug. 3-6 in Orange Beach. Approved expenses include the $200 registration fee, four nights of lodging at the conference rate, per diem expenses, and use of a city vehicle.
Council members also approved a $50 monthly phone allowance for the police investigator position, which is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Street Department received approval to hire Russell Brown as a full-time, permanent equipment operator at a rate of $12 per hour, pending the results of a background check.
The council approved a $300 advertising expenditure with the Childersburg Quarterback Club. The expense will be paid from Fund 23.
Council members also approved payment of invoices totaling $192,053.78.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, at 6:00 p.m. A work session will begin at 5:30 p.m.
