Former Sylacauga city council member passes away at the age of 71

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Marble City lost a former Sylacauga city council member when Harold “The fighter” Ward passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Ward passed away at the age of 71 and served District 2 on the city council from 2004 until 2008.

“He always looked after his district and the city of Sylacauga as a whole,” said Sylacauga Mayor Jim Heigl. “Bringing people into the city limits was very important to him.”

The funeral service for Ward will be Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel, with the burial taking place at Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.
