SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga’s newest retailer, Dirt Cheap, will be arriving in 2018.
In the Tuesday night city council work session, District 3 City Councilman Donnie Blackmon announced Second Street Development will bring the bargain business to the vacant Kmart building on W. Fort Williams St.
The Hattiesburg-based business has been become a bargain-lovers dream for more than 25 years.
According to the company’s website, it is “growing to be the largest buyer of insurance claims in the United States, while also adding manufacturer and retailer buybacks, closeouts, bankruptcies, overstocks, liquidations, customer returns and out of season goods.”
Blackmon said Dirt Cheap will occupy 28,000 sq. ft. of the building with a remaining 4,000 sq. ft. & 8,500 sq. ft. remaining for future tenants. He said Second Street plans to turn the keys over to Dirt Cheap on May 1 with a tentative opening date set for, or around, June 1.
The company operates more than 90 stores. Blackmon said 18 are in Alabama, with a 19th on the way in the Marble City.
Dirt Cheap also owns Treasure Hunt and Dirt Cheap Building Supplies.
