Convicted killer who escaped from Childersburg Work Release Center recaptured

MORGAN CO., Ala. – Five days after his escape from the Childersburg Work Release Center, 43-year-old Daniel Miner was recaptured about 100 miles away. The Alabama Department of Corrections reported that he was taken into custody at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.

According to information provided by the Morgan Co. sheriff’s office, deputies assisted the U.S. Marshals Service in investigation of a residence on Pitts Rd. in the Falkville-Eva area at about 2:30 p.m. Confirming that Miner was inside, a search warrant was obtained as an ALEA helicopter maintained aerial surveillance.

One person in the home exited and surrendered, while Miner refused and indicated that he had an explosive device. In cooperation with an ALEA bomb squad and a SWAT team from the Madison Co. Sheriff’s Office, tear gas was administered, and Miner was taken into custody and transported to the Morgan Co. jail pending transfer to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Miner had been serving a 999 year, 99 month, 99 day prison term for a murder in Marshall Co. He was sentenced on July 25, 1994.
