Clay County man faces federal charges in connection with 2024 kidnapping, carjacking incident

CLAY COUNTY, Ala. – A Clay County man is facing federal charges stemming from an incident that occurred on Sept. 5, 2024.

Stevie Earl Harris was arraigned in federal court on a five-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court. The indictment charges Harris with attempted kidnapping, carjacking, using or carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, transporting explosive materials without a license, and transporting explosive materials with intent to injure.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy M. Peoples said the charges against Harris involve conduct that threatened the safety of an innocent victim and others nearby.

Agencies involved in the investigation include the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Lineville Police Department, the Ashland Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
