CHILDERSBURG, Ala, – Several measures approved during the Tuesday (8/18) Childersburg Council meeting will allow Hawk Plastics to go ahead with a $4.2 Million expansion that will add 30 employees.
Acting in their role as the Childersburg Land Redevelopment Authority (CLRA) approved Resolution 2026-24 which grants Alabama Power a ROW easement for installation and maintenance for transmission and distribution of electrical power and communications, authorizing Mayor Ken Wesson as Chairman of the CLRA to execute an easement agreement.
The Council also approved Resolution 2026-26, which approves a ten-year abatement submitted by SAGA Manufacturing, as Hawk Plastics, regarding an addition to their existing facility with an expansion cost of $4,220,000.
Resolution 2026-25 allows the City to surplus four vehicles no longer needed for public or municipal use for the transportation department through a program administered through the East Alabama Regional Planning Commission.
The Rainwater Library was approved to hire Kaylyn Liner as a part-time temporary library clerk at a rate of $8.50 per hour.
Invoices in the amount of $250,949.08 were approved for payment.
Mayor Ken Wesson announced that the Thursday night high school football game that kicks off the season in the region, will be played at the old John Cox Stadium game as a tribute to the return of the long-time series that served to signal the start of the local football season for decades.
Also, with engineering work complete for the grant-funded roadwork in the industrial park for expanding industries, the actual roadwork is expected to start soon. During that time, access will be restricted to all but First Road traffic for Hawk Plastics, Super Rock, and Cooper Steel South traffic.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1st at 6:00 p.m., preceded by a 5:30 p.m. work session.
