Sylacauga City Council to consider animal control, transportation plan, and shelter agreement

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will meet Tuesday evening, Aug. 18, following a work session scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall.

During the meeting, council members will address several items under both old and new business.

Under old business, the council is expected to vote on rescheduling a public hearing concerning Ordinance 2290-26, which addresses the feeding of animals and animal control issues along the Hwy 280 corridor. The hearing is proposed to be moved to Sept. 1, 2026.

Council members will also consider a resolution to adopt the Fiscal Year 2027 Transportation Plan in accordance with the Rebuild Alabama Act.

In addition, the council will vote on a request from Chrissy’s LLC for a Class 020 Restaurant Retail Liquor License for a business located at 42488 U.S. Hwy 280 in Sylacauga.

Under new business, the council will consider a resolution outlining contract terms between the Talladega County Commission and the City of Sylacauga regarding the county’s contribution to the Sylacauga Animal Shelter.

The council will also consider approving funds for a selected vendor to perform cleanup, trimming, and edging work at Marble City Cemetery.

Additional agenda items include approval of Fiscal Year 2026 accounts payable invoices and approval of the July 2026 payrolls.
