CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – On Tuesday morning, April 21, the Childersburg City Council accepted the resignation of Parks and Recreation Director Brad Logan, effective May 1, giving approval to post the position and accept applications for a replacement.
Logan will be taking a position with the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement, but let it be known that he plans to stay involved and supportive of the department, as well as the City of Childersburg.
Mayor Ken Wesson said, “We appreciate Brad and all he brought to the position.”
Of the opening, Councilman Wesley Allen added, “We need a visionary. Someone who sees what Childersburg can be, not just what it is.”
In New Business, the Council approved local matching funds in the amount of $51,367 for FY2027 expenditures for the 5311 Non-Urbanized Area Public Transportation Program, and authorized Mayor Wesson to execute the agreement with the East Alabama Regional Planning Commission.
Mayor Wesson read aloud a proclamation of support for April 2026 as Fair Housing Month.
The Council approved the purchase of the following technology equipment for the recently bought 2026 Interceptor Police Department vehicle #6741: TSA Computer and printer ($3,067.61) as well as Axon Enterprises front and back seat cameras and related LPR ($13,432.80) for a five-year period. Both will be paid from Fund 65 Direct Support.
Police Department training was approved for Chief Kevin Koss and Sgt. Micah Northcutt to attend the FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute Training in Hoover on July 20-24, 2026. The cost will be $795 per participant with use of a City vehicle, plus meal expense reimbursement.
The Council approved Johnny Swain to provide contract services to install footing and curbing to secure water/fire protective cover located at the Police/Judicial Building at a cost of $3,850. The concrete that is left over after the project’s completion will be used to extend the parking lot off 1st St./ Hwy 76 behind the downtown shops. During the Council meeting, that exposed system outside set off the building’s fire alarm twice.
Payment of invoices was approved in the amount of $369,397.67.
The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5 at 6:00 p.m.
Mayor Wesson announced that he had been contacted by officials from ALDOT on Monday, telling him that the department intends to move forward on their proposed project to reduce Hwy 235 (Coosa Pines Dr.) from a four-lane to a two-lane with a middle left-turn lane. However, the project has been pushed back and will not install the changes until sometime next year.
