SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Cal Ripken youth baseball league has been postponed after the recent COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak across the nation and world.
The decision was made after receiving recommendations from the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Headquarters, AHSAA and The Alabama Department of Health.
According to the Sylacauga Rec Sports Facebook page, all mandatory practices and meetings will be postponed until April 4th, and it is obviously a fluid situation and is subject to change depending on the public health status at that time.
While the postponement is in play, the complex will be unlocked for voluntary practices.
All communal helmets and practice equipment will be removed and the restrooms and bleachers will be washed with Clorox daily as well as making sure that the antibacterial soap in the restrooms are fully stocked.
If a player chooses not to participate in any practices during this time they will not be penalized in anyway and will be fully eligible to participate once the season resumes.
