SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The decision and announcement came early this morning that the Sylacauga City Hall is now closed to the public because of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
“We can still carry on business with the public, but we don’t need the public coming to us face to face,” said Sylacauga Mayor Jim Heigl. ” We have phone numbers that everyone can reach us at, and we can handle any issue over the phone.”
According to Mayor Heigl, the decision was put in place solely in an attempt to curve the virus.
Sylacauga City Hall says that if you are in need of assistance from the offices of the city clerk, municipal court, municipal code or the Mayor’s business office then you can call one of four places.
- City Clerk’s Office: (256) 401-2401
- Municipal Court: (256) 401-2521
- Code Enforcement: (256) 401-2425
- Mayor’s Office: (256) 401-2424
If anyone needs assistance from the Sylacauga Police Department or the Sylacauga Fire Department business offices then they are encouraged to contact these numbers:

- Fire Department: (256) 249-6204
According to Mayor Heigl, the closing is expected to last at least 14 days, but as always that is subject to change depending on the outbreak.
