ACFS and SAFE to distribute food on Mondays at multiple locations in Sylacauga

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Alabama Childhood Food Solutions and SAFE are working together to provide as many as 2,000 additional food boxes to kids who are food insecure and very dependent on the food they receive from the school each day.

Food distribution to children ages 5-18 years old will take place on Mondays from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm beginning March 23, 2020 at locations listed below throughout Talladega County.

The distribution will include a week’s worth of food to supplement the lunches that are distributed Monday through Friday by the Sylacauga City School System and the Talladega County School System.

Children in Talladega County will receive a lunch Monday through Friday at noon from the Sylacauga City School System and from the Talladega County School System. Then, on Monday of each week, children will receive a box containing a week’s worth of food to supplement the lunches. Children must be present to receive the box.

  • Pinecrest Elementary
  • Indian Valley Elementary
  • J. Craig Community Center
  • Pine Gove Baptist Church/Odena
  • Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church

The Talladega County School System will be distributing the weekly boxes as well as the lunches at sites throughout Talladega County. Alabama Childhood Food Solutions is also providing weekly boxes to children in Coosa County. Coosa County Schools Superintendent Andi Wilson is coordinating the distribution and communication of pick up points to those children. Additional distribution points will be added as needs arise. These boxes are in addition to the weekend supplements that are sent home with students during normal school schedules. Donations are being accepted and encouraged to assist in the additional distribution which exceeds the normal budget.
