SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Aggie multi-sport athlete Corbyn Patterson announced Tuesday that he has committed to Alabama A&M’s track and field program.
Patterson closes his high school career as one of the most accomplished multi-sport athletes in recent Aggie history. He recently earned first-team All-State honors in the 400-meter relay after winning the Class 5A state championship by 0.02 seconds. The senior was also selected to the All-Senior Boys Team.
Patterson’s impact extended beyond individual competition. He helped the Aggies’ 4×100-meter relay team, alongside DeArian “Juice” Riley, Tre Wright, and Zakorien Chambliss, earn second-team All-State honors after breaking the school record twice during the season. He was also a member of the boys’ 4×400-meter relay team with Qun Lewis, Jeremiah Crawford, and Riley, which received second-team All-State recognition.
Track and field was only one chapter of Patterson’s athletic career at Sylacauga.
On the football field, Patterson played wide receiver and cornerback, making an impact on both sides of the ball for the Aggies. On the hardwood, he helped Sylacauga reach the Class 5A state championship game in both 2025 and 2026.
His biggest contributions came during the Aggies’ 2026 postseason run. Patterson opened the scoring in the regional semifinal against Elmore County by knocking down his first two 3-pointers en route to a 62-37 victory. He followed that performance by hitting three of his first four attempts from beyond the arc in the regional championship game against Marbury, helping propel the Aggies to a 70-40 win.
His defining moment came in the Class 5A state semifinal against Guntersville. With 4:52 remaining, Patterson buried a game-tying 3-pointer, igniting a 14-2 Sylacauga run that sealed a 59-50 victory and sent the Aggies back to the state championship game for the second consecutive season.
Although Patterson’s collegiate career will continue on the track, his legacy at Sylacauga extends well beyond a single sport. Whether he was setting records on the track, making plays in the secondary, or knocking down timely shots on the basketball court, Patterson left his mark on Aggie athletics.
The indoor track and field season runs from January through mid-March before giving way to the outdoor season, which concludes in early June. Patterson is expected to make his Alabama A&M debut during the 2027 season.
