SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Students enrolled in Sylacauga City Schools will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2026-27 school year through the federal Community Eligibility Provision program, school officials have announced.
The district said it will again participate in the Community Eligibility Provision, or CEP, a program that allows qualifying school systems to provide meals at no cost to all enrolled students. As a result, families will not be required to submit meal applications or pay fees for school breakfasts and lunches.
According to the district, no action is required from parents or guardians at this time.
The Community Eligibility Provision was established under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 and is designed to increase student access to nutritious meals in schools serving large numbers of low-income families. By eliminating meal applications, the program reduces administrative burdens while helping ensure students have access to healthy food throughout the school day.
School officials said the program also allows child nutrition staff to focus more time on meal preparation and service, while reducing the amount of time students spend waiting in lunch lines.
Sylacauga City Schools emphasized that healthy meals play an important role in student learning and development. Breakfast and lunch offerings will continue to meet guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for healthy school meals.
The district also noted that, in the operation of child nutrition programs, no child will be discriminated against based on race, sex, color, national origin, age, or disability.
