ALABAMA – Even with a recent US Supreme Court ruling and a special primary called by Gov. Kay Ivey, the regularly scheduled primary is still scheduled for for Tuesday, May 19th.
Candidates for all seven U.S. House congressional districts are up for election, as well as candidates for a variety of other local and state offices: Governor, U.S. Senate, state legislature and more.
Possible Congressional redistricting changes don’t affect voting for those “other” local and statewide races. Party winners will be determined during Tuesday’s primary, or, if necessary, the runoff, which will be held on June 16th. Votes for congressional races will be tallied that night, but an Aug. 11 special election could ultimately decide the winners of four districts subject to potential redistricting. All other Congressional districts in the state will remain the same.
The impacted districts are: District 1, which is coming open as Rep. Barry Moore runs for US Senate; District 2, held by Rep. Shomari Figures, D-Mobile; District 6, held by Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Hoover; and District 7, held by Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham.
