One killed in Chelsea crash involving a train and vehicle

CHELSEA, Ala. – One person is dead after a vehicle/train collision in Chelsea Tuesday night.

A crash involving a Train occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, and has claimed the life of a Birmingham woman. The Shelby County Coroner has identified the deceased as 31-year-old Michelle Manning. Manning was fatally injured when the 2016 Volkswagen Passat she was driving was struck at a railroad crossing by the CSX Transportation Train. Manning was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Shelby County 433, near Johnson Road, approximately one mile east of Chelsea city limits, in Shelby County. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
