CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Childersburg High School softball standout Maddie Brooks has already secured her college future. Now, she’s focused on adding even more to an already eye-popping résumé.
Brooks, a shortstop and pitcher, signed a scholarship with Auburn University at Montgomery in the fall and will join the Warhawks program after her senior season. AUM competes in the Gulf South Conference at the NCAA Division II level.
With her college decision behind her, Brooks said she wanted to enter her final high school season with a clear mind.
Brooks has been a varsity contributor since the seventh grade, and her production has only grown as she’s moved through her high school career.
As a freshman, Brooks hit .545 with four home runs and 28 RBIs. She followed that up with an even bigger sophomore campaign, batting .616 with a 1.14 slugging percentage, 27 extra-base hits, four home runs and 36 RBIs. She also began showing off her speed on the bases, stealing 41.
Her junior year was her most decorated yet. Brooks was named the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Class 3A Hitter of the Year after batting .612 with a 1.369 slugging percentage. She recorded 63 hits, 43 of them for extra bases, and hit 11 home runs — nearly tripling her totals from the previous two seasons. She also drove in 47 runs and stole 44 bases.
Though she projects as a middle infielder at the college level and plays mostly shortstop for Childersburg, Brooks has also been a key contributor in the pitching circle.
As a freshman, she struck out 87. In 2024, she finished 6-7 with 102 strikeouts. During her junior season, she posted a 14-8 record with 110 strikeouts and a 2.56 earned run average.
Brooks has been a multi-year selection to the Talladega All-County First Team and has been named the county’s Player of the Year multiple times.
With her senior season approaching, Brooks said one of her biggest personal goals is earning Class 3A Player of the Year honors.
For Childersburg, Brooks’ final season will come with high expectations – and for Brooks, one last chance to chase milestones before moving on to the next level in Montgomery.
